A welcome note to authors and publishers
Through illustrating and exploring the world's best fiction and non-fiction, Book Drum's goal is to encourage more people to read better books. Our interactive, multi-media approach appeals particularly to younger people whom publishers currently struggle to reach. We hope that providing the visual and audio context to books will introduce a whole new section of the population to reading for pleasure. It may also help many of us who read regularly to understand and enjoy sometimes difficult or inaccessible texts rather better.
We welcome the involvement of all authors, agents, booksellers and publishers who support these aims.
After the initial Tournament phase, we will be introducing an editable page in each profile for the sole use of the book's author. Authors may wish to offer notes on the writing of the book, or describe how their point of view has changed since publication. Non-fiction authors may find this facility particularly useful for issuing updates on their subject.
Some authors may wish to create profiles for their own books. In effect, Book Drum's tools enable authors to assemble fully "multi-media" works. Authors can upload photographs, footnotes, a recommended soundtrack, videos, maps, games - just about anything digital in fact. For the purposes of the Tournament, we ask Authors not to profile their own work, but thereafter the Book Drum system is available for all authors to use as creatively as they wish.
We hope that authors and everyone else involved in the book trade will welcome this exciting new facility. If anyone has any concerns or suggestions, please get in touch with us at editor@bookdrum.com.
